Training on bookkeeping and cost benefit calculations

A 4-day collective training on bookkeeping and cost benefit calculations for outgrowers is currently ongoing in Nairobi, Kenya. The training targets technical and extension staff in horticultural companies involved in production and export of fine vegetables. Thirteen participants working with outgrowers are taking part in the training.

At the end of the training the participants should be able to:

  • identify and monitor production-related expenditures and revenues of the vegetable crop for an average outgrower;
  • calculate  business KPIs such as yield, turnover, gross margin, net margin, net profit or loss, rejection rates and, various costs;
  • identify associated cash flows and be able to distinguish cash flows from profitability;
  • be equipped with the methodology to be used to facilitate a similar training for outgrowers;
  • observe practical exercises as outlined in the training handbook to be issued to the participant(s).
  This activity is implemented by COLEACP and supported by the NExT Kenya (New Export Trade) programme, established in collaboration with the EU Delegation in Nairobi and Kenyan stakeholders.
